April 16, 2009 - At NAB 2009, Inlet Technologies will Demonstrate Adaptive Streaming Capabilities and Showcase New Products

The company also will share video compression expertise.

RALEIGH, NC – APRIL 16, 2009 – Inlet Technologies, the leader in advanced encoding solutions for new media, today announced its plans for next week’s NAB 2009 in Las Vegas. At booth SL5624, the company will demonstrate adaptive streaming support for leading platforms. Inlet will also showcase Armada 3.0, the third phase of its automated encoding workflow management platform; and the latest additions to its Spinnaker streaming media family, including Spinnaker Management Console and the Spinnaker 80 audio streaming appliance. In addition, Andy Beach, director of product management, will share his video compression expertise in three technology teaching sessions and sign copies of his book, Real World Video Compression.

Adaptive Streaming Demonstrations
Inlet will demonstrate its full support for adaptive streaming, including live and on-demand support of Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming. Adaptive streaming is an advanced media delivery method that switches seamlessly between multiple streams, depending on the available bandwidth and PC performance at any given moment, guaranteeing the highest-quality live streaming experience for the end user. The video stream is automatically delivered to the end user without stuttering, dropped frames or buffering. While adaptive streaming is completely invisible to the end user, it results in a much improved consumer experience, and empowers broadcasters to offer true HD (720p+) streams to clients who have sufficient bandwidth without alienating those with lower speed connections.

New Product Introductions
Inlet will showcase Armada 3.0, the culmination of its automated encoding workflow management platform. Armada now fully automates the digital media workflow process, from analysis to encode to post-encode. Armada 3.0 completes the full workflow cycle by allowing for post-encoding functionality such as quality control, automated asset delivery, and multiple publishing options. In addition, it includes built-in VOD support for Microsoft IIS7 Smooth Streaming, allowing organizations to produce the highest-quality video stream for a much improved user experience. The Armada platform is ideal for organizations transcoding large volumes of content (tens of hours or more per week) and in need of greater media flexibility in terms of multiple formats and resolutions. By adding encoding intelligence throughout the process, Armada automates the entire encoding workflow. Armada saves valuable time and resources, allowing organizations to scale rapidly to increase their speed to market, and extend the market reach of their content.

Inlet will also demonstrate its new Spinnaker Management Console, which allows users to manage multiple Spinnaker encoders from a single web interface. The Management Console is ideal for organizations deploying multiple Spinnaker encoders, such as those producing professional-quality live video streaming for sports, news, entertainment, or other events. Spinnaker Management Console uses one common interface to manage all Spinnaker assets at a time, allowing users to monitor all live outgoing streams on one snapshot page, detect any alerts and alarms from one view, and use a global calendaring feature to schedule resource allocation.

Additionally, the Management Console—in conjunction with multiple Spinnakers—provides built-in support for adaptive streaming, such as Microsoft’s IIS7 Smooth Streaming platform, for which Inlet was the first encoding technology provider to announce support. Multiple redundancy levels and failover options allow for quick event transfer to a backup encoder in the event of a primary failure. The Spinnaker Management Console also allows for routine maintenance events, like software upgrades and scheduled services, to be automatically executed on all Spinnaker boxes.

Inlet also will showcase its new Spinnaker 80 professional-grade multi-format audio streaming appliance, to help organizations introduce multi-channel streaming audio for mobile or desktop applications. The new Spinnaker 80 family supports up to eight audio channels, allowing broadcasters to provide multiple language channels and to serve their listeners who might not have the required bandwidth to view video streams. The Spinnaker 80 encoders support multiple output streams per input channel, and multiple bitrates and sample rates per codec, as well as multiple streaming audio formats.

Video Compression Expertise
Andy Beach, Inlet’s director of product management, is scheduled as a featured speaker in three technology teaching sessions. The (Dark) Art of Pre-Processing, scheduled for Monday, April 20th from 11:45 am to 1:00 pm in rooms N249-251, will review the art of prepping content for encoding. This session is designed for an audience ranging from beginners to experts seeking to improve the quality of their deliverable video content. Video Compression for a Good End-User Experience, Monday the 20th from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm, also in rooms N249-251, is designed for professionals with a focus on delivery to the web. Those looking for an advanced discussion of compression techniques focusing on high-volume and automated workflows are encouraged to attend the In-Depth: Finding Your Inner Video Compressionist session on Tuesday April 21st from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in room N256. Beach will be joined by Derrick Freeman, video streaming and compression specialist, Freeman Compression, LLC, during this session. Beach will also be on hand to sign copies of his book, Real World Video Compression, on Tuesday April 21st from 1:30 – 2:00 pm in the NAB Store located in the main lobby of the convention center
